Following the Wisdom of the Bodymind: Triggers & Projections

Sunday, February 4th, 2024, from 1-4P

Location: Indwelling Community Room

Guide: Hilary Buckwalter-Wilde

Investment: $55

Triggers and projections often get a bad rap and are seen as something that either shouldn’t be happening or that when they do, that they are something to “fix” or “regulate.” We constantly see “trigger warnings” and are encouraged to stay away from things that provoke the fight, flight, freeze response. We are further persuaded by some psychotherapeutic and trauma informed methods to try to move towards a calm nervous system–regulation being more desirable than dysregulation.

But what if we are missing the mark? What if there is more to the story? Where might the bodymind be trying to lead us through triggers and projections?

In this trauma conscious/responsive workshop we will explore the process of inner work around our traumas and experiences in the spirit of getting to know ourselves better, specifically focusing on triggers and projections, using somatics and depth psychology.

The process of turning inward to heal can be challenging and uncomfortable, and is often made worse by our societal norms of “quick fixes” and values around being “pain free.” However, learning to be with ourselves and our “stuff” can be one of the most challenging and rewarding undertakings of our lives and can be a catalyst for wellbeing and better relationships. Perhaps we need a new norm, one in which it is ok to be in discomfort, trusting that the bodymind will lead us through. Perhaps triggers and projections are medicines–ones that can lead us towards more freedom, love, connection, and intimacy. Let’s find out together.

This workshop will include an embodied movement practice, lecture, discussion, and creative practices. Tea and snacks will be provided.

There will be no refunds offered for this workshop. If you are unable to attend for any reason, we ask that you offer your spot to someone else, perhaps a friend, family member, or someone on the waiting list.
